First Appointment

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your initial consultation with Prof. Bijayendra Singh will be thorough and comprehensive. Here is what you need to know.

Referral Letter

Your GP or referring physician will provide a referral letter detailing your symptoms, medical history and the reason for referral. Please ensure this is sent to us before your appointment.

Medical Records

Bring a list of your current medications, any allergies you have, your past surgical history, and relevant medical records. If you have any chronic conditions, please inform the consultant during your consultation.

Imaging and Tests

If you have had any X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, or ultrasound scans related to your condition, please bring them along. Having previous imaging allows Prof. Singh to make a more accurate assessment.

During the Consultation

Prof. Singh will take a detailed history, perform a physical examination, and review any imaging results. He will discuss diagnosis and treatment options, both non-surgical and surgical. The consultation typically lasts 20-30 minutes.

After the Appointment

You will receive a summary of the diagnosis and recommended treatment plan. A detailed letter will also be sent to your GP or referring physician.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

CRPS is a chronic pain condition that most often affects one limb after an injury or surgery.

What is CRPS?

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a form of chronic pain that usually affects an arm or a leg. It typically develops after an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack. The pain is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury.

Symptoms

  • Continuous burning or throbbing pain
  • Sensitivity to touch or cold
  • Changes in skin temperature or colour
  • Swelling in the affected area
  • Stiffness and decreased range of motion

Diagnosis and Treatment

Diagnosis is based on medical history and physical examination. Treatment is most effective when started early and may include physical therapy, medications, and nerve blocks.

Living with CRPS

Regular gentle exercise, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support can all help manage symptoms and maintain quality of life.
